About the Youth in Philanthropy Initiative

In recognition of the 25th birthday of the Wet Mountain Valley Community Foundation (WMVCF) and in honor of our founders, Dick & Audrey Stermer, the WMVCF has created a Youth in Philanthropy Initiative (YIPI). This initiative provides $25K in local grants to Wet Mountain Valley nonprofits and organizations. Five different groups/organizations have provided $5,000 each to be awarded based on individual grant criteria.

Working closely with the WMVCF, the YIPI grant program will be facilitated by five different young adult teams selected from the community. Students and young adults will learn about philanthropy, grant processes, and ultimately evaluate all grant proposals and make their recommendations for awards.

One of the goals of YIPI is to engage the younger population with the nonprofit sector in the Valley and the impact philanthropy has on our community. YIPI also connects students and young adults to community needs and local charities, as well as develop critical thinking, decision-making, and leadership skills through skilled mentorship. The Initiative is managed through the Succession and Sustainability Fund (SAS) of the WMVCF, the donor-advised fund created by Dick and Audrey Stermer.

We would also like to thank the Boettcher Foundation for their support through their Catalyst Grant program.
