Mission: Wolf connects people with nature through hands-on experiential education. Through volunteer internships, on-site tours, and national education programs, we inspire individuals to become stewards of the earth. While providing a home for rescued wolves and horses, we create opportunities for growth through community service and personal interaction with animals — values rooted in education, sustainability, and improving relationships between people, animals, and the world around them.
We currently care for 15 wolves and wolf-dog crosses, along with 4 teaching horses, at a facility that is solar-powered and completely off the grid. We strive to be a model of sustainable living, building with recycled materials and renewable energy. Our volunteer staff of 6–12 people, who live on-site, lead tours and host youth groups from around the world, contributing thousands of hours of community service and experiential education each year.
This year, the Aspen Acres Fire brought that mission into sharp focus. As the fire grew to nearly 100,000 acres and burned for weeks along our western boundary, our staff worked around the clock on evacuation preparation — coordinating with the U.S. Forest Service, county sheriff’s offices, and incident management teams, while building mobile secure enclosures so our wolves could be moved safely if needed. The experience made clear that Mission:Wolf needs a permanent, long-term evacuation site: a secure location, ideally developed in partnership with neighboring landowners and community members, that could serve not only our wolves but also other community members’ animals in need of emergency shelter.
Looking ahead, we need support to continue rebuilding and upgrading wolf fences and gates, to secure a permanent, community-serving evacuation site, to preserve more land in conservation for the wolves, and to usher in a new era of education with the opening of our new educational center, Jane’s Studio. A complete wish list is available on our website. Any and all support is greatly appreciated.
