The Excellence in Education Fund and Committee is a designated fund of the Wet Mountain Valley Community Foundation (WMVCF), created to strengthen educational opportunities for Custer County students and educators.
For almost 20 years, Excellence in Education has worked in partnership with WMVCF and Custer County School District C-1 to help meet important educational needs that extend beyond what can be supported through the public-school budget. This partnership allows community generosity to directly enhance learning opportunities for local students while providing teachers and school leaders with additional resources to help students thrive.
Investing in Students, Teachers, and Opportunity
Excellence in Education supports projects and opportunities that enrich the educational experience for students across grade levels. Funding is responsive to the evolving needs of the school district and may support:
- Curriculum, classroom materials, and educational resources
- Technology and innovative learning tools
- Teacher training and professional development
- Arts, music, and enrichment opportunities
- Field trips and experiential learning
- Special programs and initiatives that expand student opportunities
- Volunteer and community engagement within the school
- Emerging educational needs that cannot be fully addressed through the district’s regular budget
Over the years, Excellence in Education has helped fund mathematics and digital curriculum, textbooks, calculators, Chromebooks and classroom technology, teacher training, arts programming, field trips, and other resources that directly benefit Custer County students.
The Fund has also supported efforts that strengthen connections between the school and the broader community, including a school volunteer program that connects community members with students, teachers, and classrooms across grade levels.

Excellence in Education recognizes that investing in education is an investment in the future of Custer County. By bringing together educators, community members, donors, and local partners, the Fund helps ensure that students and teachers have access to opportunities and resources that might otherwise be out of reach.
