Boy Scout Troop 114 and Cub Scout Pack 114 focus on building character, citizenship, personal fitness, first-aid, and wilderness survival for young boys and girls through a variety of activities. Scouting prepares young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives, guided by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. The Scout Oath includes duty to God and country, duty to others by helping people at all times, and duty to oneself by keeping mentally awake, physically strong, and morally straight. The Scout Law lists the core values by which a scout should live: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
A scout’s journey is filled with a wide range of activities that emphasize hands-on, experiential learning. This includes a heavy focus on outdoor adventures such as camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and fishing. Through these activities, Scouts learn skills like wilderness survival, fire building, navigation with a map and compass, and first aid. Scouts also engage in community service projects, explore potential careers, and pursue hobbies, all while advancing through a series of ranks by earning merit badges. This youth-led program, supported by adult leaders, provides opportunities for young boys and girls to build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and work as a team.
